Home Themes Events Speakers 2024 Calling all Design Leaders, Let me take you back to 2008—the year I embarked on my journey as a community creator. Everything was going well, and within just a few months, we became a strong community of over 4000 members. But fate took a dark turn when an individual decided to derail our purpose by turning the group into something unrelated and inappropriate. It was disapointing to witness the community I built become so tainted, and I had no choice but to step away. Fast forward to 2011, and I found myself in a new country—energized to connect with South Africans in Madeira. We grew 600+ strong and when I organised a picnic in the mountain, we filled the entire campsite. I stood by the entrance excitedly welcoming people and everyone asked about Jose while ignoring me. Who was Jose? Jose was a guy who started telling everyone that he had founded and organised the group and picnic. Well, forward to today and here I am aware that a handful of people in my network are reaping the rewards of my efforts. The thing is, these are people who take other people's ideas because they are too disinvested to ideate. I am intuitive and care about my network. I listen, I watch. When I create an event or activity, it's because I have spoken to the people. I have heard them, and I have seen and acknowledged their strengths and thoughts. But then you get the copy cats, who not only copy you but they try to devalue at every opportunity, they ignore your offer for collaboration and they compete with you by messaging your your community with their activities strategically scheduled to force a choice. The nuisance is the hoohoo haha collectives catch and convince others USING YOUR STOLEN WORDS AND IDEAS. For the awareness week, I would love to hear from design leaders who might be interested in talking or presenting on this topic, and related topics. Every day I see posts incentivising people to steal like artists. This is utter garbage. I see posts promoting idea theft as if it were some form of art. It's time to dispel this notion. Idea theft is not a sign of creativity; it's a symptom of uninspired, apathetic individuals from all walks of life. So, how do we deal with this? How do we protect our ideas, encourage collaboration, and build an inspiring, respectful environment? Design Pro Defence - Empowering Designers for Tomorrow Join us for a transformative series of events under the theme "Design Pro Defence" - an initiative dedicated to equipping designers with the tools they need to thrive in the ever-evolving world of design. Because there are very important topics in this awareness week, we thought it would be better to reskin the portal without our own branding, and only add our logos to the events we organise ourselves. To make this initiative work for as many important voices as possible, we decided to also list other relevant events around the topics and themes of Design for Tomorrow. If you are organising relevant events, please feel free to add them to the list. That way more people can hear about ethics, sustainability, human centered and human centric design and every other important topic in the design world today. Load More

Home Events Speakers 2024 Merchandise Robert Kozma Emeritus Principal Scientist at SRI International in Silicon Valley In August Robert is talking on a panel for the Design for Tomorrow Concept About Robert I'm an Emeritus Principal Scientist at SRI International in Silicon Valley where I did research and development on advanced technology systems in education. I retired from there in 2002 to do consulting with ministries of education, multinational organizations, and high tech companies on technology policies that would improve education systems and prepare students for the knowledge economy and information society. My biggest clients were Intel, UNESCO, and government agencies in Singapore, Thailand, Chile, Norway, Jordan, and Egypt. I did probono work in rural villages in Kenya. Prior to SRI, I was a professor and research scientist at the University of Michigan where I taught grade courses in instructional design, software design, and instructional psychology. I started my career as a grade school math teacher in the inner city of Detroit. I've always considered myself as a designer, from the time in my junior year in high school that I won a contest sponsored by the aeronautical engineering department at the University of Detroit with a space suit i designed. I designed innovative lesson plans as a grade school teacher. I designed research studies and graduate courses as a university professor and I designed software systems at SRI. As a consultant, I helped governments design policies that used technology to improve their education systems. In my retirement, I wrote a book on design, "Make the World a Better Place: Design with Passion, Purpose, and Values", that was recently published by John Wiley & Sons. Contribution (general) Robert is a member of Design in Focus, the platform that hosts Randstad UX, and Randstad UX (R'UX) is responsible for the launch of the Design for Tomorrow concept. The entity can be a division, sister, pipeline, specific topic, region, language or interest group of the Design in Focus brand. For example the network RANDSTAD UX (R'UX) has been created as a regional interest group part of the design category of Design in Focus. Although it has a branded experience, the brand was developed using the Design in Focus media kit. R'UX has monthly meetups which are published on the design in focus events page and content such as presentations and talks by the network is added to the galleries. Home Events Speakers 2024 Merchandise Daniella Sachs Strategic Impact Designer, Founder, Builder In September Daniella will be talking at Design for Tomorrow About Daniela Impact. Everyone wants to do it. Many claim to do it. But what does impact really mean and how do you actually achieve it? This question has driven my quest over the past 15 years to understand how to design, innovate and build products and programs that have real impact on the world. My journey has taken me from architecture and urban planning, into conservation and sustainable economic development. Through to launching tech startups, and building purpose-driven communities and social entrepreneurship ecosystems. I have taken what I have learned in my work which has spanned across Africa, Australia, Indonesia, the Middle East, Caribbean, South Pacific and Europe to create the Impact Ikigai(TM), a holistic strategic design framework. This tool helps companies leverage the power of design to embed impact and future-proof their business. It helps organisations turn Theories of Change into real, tangible impact. And helps design teams ask the hard questions to make sure that real impact is delivered beyond the standard metrics. As designers, we have the ability and responsibility to help companies walk-the-talk when it comes to designing for good and designing for tomorrow. I'd love to share what I have learned along my journey, and in turn discover what you have learned along yours. < Back This is an initiative by Randstad UX & Design in Focus .
