Up Up < Back Stefan Barac Builder About Stefan As a strategic designer, I help companies set goals beyond the monetary ones. Materializing the sustainable purpose delivers more happy customers. This improves the DNA of the company and ultimately improves finances. The basic rules: 👉🏾 It's about helping people by solving THEIR problem. 👉🏾 Increasing efficiency comes later. For 15 years my focus has been on accessibility and sustainability: ✅ Accessibility If 0 out of 10 users can access my offer, how much revenue will it drive? 🌱 Sustainability How many orders will companies receive if 0 out of 10 users find value in the offer? That's why I submit myself to human and planet centred approaches. The main focus here is on ethical design. And users come first. About the Event A11Y (Accessibility), Usability and Inclusion: I talk about the differences, concerns and added values of these areas. They have one thing in common: all people benefit from them! Here is a list of links, reads and follow-ups www.linkedin.com ABC of experience starts with Accessibility | LinkedIn A11Y (Accessibility), Usability and Inclusion: I talk about the differences, concerns and added values of these areas. They have one thing in common: all people benefit from them! 👉🏾 80% Fails Today's products, services and strategies claim to deliver according to the Parreto principle. That is, to provide a solution with 20% effort for 80% of the target group. This is wrong! To even motivate 80% users, it needs almost 100% accessibility! Today's product and service teams fail at that. We try to serve people in far too segmented a way! 👉🏾 External vs. Internal Let's take into account all factors that affect people from inside as well as from outside. Then we have a realistic chance of approaching 100%. 👉🏾 Long-term, Medium-term and Short-term Limitations in accessibility are long, medium or short term. Depending on the circumstances that affect us, we are all disabled! 👉🏾 Permanent, reducible and reversible There are ways and means to make life easier for disabled people! We need to build tools that accelerate the reduction and reversal of disability! 👉🏾 cognitive load Assumptions that most users are too limited turned out to be correct! Cognitive load acts on our nervous system. This gives, or takes away, our freedom to play to our greatest mental capabilities. Cognitive load causes even people with an IQ of +130 to fail. Digitalisation and automation need more care, openness and humility! Because we are all disabled at certain points in time. Because there are very important topics in this awareness week, we thought it would be better to reskin the portal without our own branding, and only add our logos to the events we organise ourselves. To make this initiative work for as many important voices as possible, we decided to also list other relevant events around the topics and themes of Design for Tomorrow. If you are organising relevant events, please feel free to add them to the list. That way more people can hear about ethics, sustainability, human centered and human centric design and every other important topic in the design world today. Load More

BRANDING & S TYLEGUIDE UX | CI | DE S IGN IN FOCU S | CONTACT Brand and style guides are practical documents that ensure that branding is implemented consistently, operating with a singular vision across multiple divisions. Protect and grow your brand, communicate the personality of your company, and establish a visual consistency with a comprehensive brand book or style guide. In addition to the work we can provide around your website, we also offer styling services to develop a complete brand identity guide. These branding and style guides serve as a handbook for anyone who is creating content related to your brand. This helps make sure your brand's voice and visual identity are consistent across all of your touch-points. Having great documentation in the form of styleguides, brand books and design systems also helps you acheive greater Omni-channel experiences that builds trust and creates a strong identity that clients/ users recognize instantly and are familiar with. BRANDING Branding is the most important thing you consider for your business and all of the marketing you do should essentially be about your brand. You want to create a brand that can instill a certain feeling into those who see it. It is important to understand what feelings and emotions you want to evoke from people when they see or hear something about your company in order to establish these goals. Once you have a thorough understanding of what your company’s goal is, you can start creating branding strategies that can resonate with that mission statement and make people remember it in the long term S TYLEGUIDE Your brand’s style guide provides a visual reference for your company. A style guide defines your company’s visual language and sets standards for all of your written communication and design projects to ensure consistency in branding. Style guides include fonts, colors, logo usage, image usage, styles, tone and much more. The style guide is the official reference for our brand. It provides a standards manual for developers, designers, and stakeholders to communicate effectively on projects. Read about it DE S IGN S Y S TEM A good design system gives your team the building blocks to create and maintain a coherent brand experience. It cuts down on the amount of one-off work, allows you to update multiple screens at once, and helps you scale your product and team. Traditionally, design systems were limited to things like colors, styles and UI components. But the more sophisticated ones are taking a far broader view, including language and tone of voice, culture and even the brand proposition. We design brand and style guides, identity systems and visual language, building a cohesive look and feel that can be applied to all of your business materials. We work with SMEs, charities, start-ups, media companies and large organizations. Talks About Ethical design, responsible innovation, UX Editorial The overarching definition - to me - of ethical design is: Growing businesses, products, and services from a principle of fairness and fundamental respect towards everyone involved From this definition, a range of core principles can be extracted, such as: Challenge past and future decisions by asking Why are we making this decision? Who benefits from the decision? What might be the long- and short term consequences of the decision? Put people’s privacy and safety front and centre Avoid implementing deceptive design patterns in the product Guardrail against bias by asking “who have we not included in our research/ decisions/ planning - and why?” Look critically at your suppliers and collaborators. Up Up < Back Lieke Beelen Founder/CEO About Lieke With a background in Industrial Design Engineering (MSc. Design for Interaction at Delft University of Technology) Lieke has worked as a service/UX designer and researcher in many different contexts. Since 2015 she is focusing on the legal sector to create access to law and access to justice by facilitating lawyers and designers to work together from a Legal Design Thinking perspective. In June 2017 she launched the platform Visual Contracts which offers all the tools and materials to learn how to create visual contracts. With her team she is now developing AI assisted SaaS for business professionals and legal counsels to create understandable contracts. Contribution to Legal Tech With a legal design thinking approach Lieke pushes for legal tech to become more human centered. With her company Visual Contracts she helps change the mindset in legal innovation first towards a more human centered approach before focusing on the automation and technology element of legal tech innovation. This makes Visual Contracts' 'Canva for contracts' a unique tool in the legal tech industry, focused on user centricity and understandable legal content first. UX design and visual thinking Lieke loves exploring user’s contexts and learning more about their daily lives. The insights she gains from the explorations in all kinds of contexts are key for designing clear, simple and engaging products and services that enrich people’s quality of life. She believes an holistic approach is needed to reach relevant design by taking into account the experiences and needs of all stakeholders involved. Social impact, privacy by default, fair patterns and ethics in design Lieke's passion is to work towards an equal, just and flourishing world. In order to achieve that she believes ethics, fair patterns and privacy by default are essential in every product or service. The overal between tech, law and design is therefore also a field she continuously learns from and brings together, above all in the development of Visual Contracts' software. Up Up < Back Ang Madsen Information architect and UX'er About Angela Information architecture is an abstract, specialized skillset. It’s also a skeleton key for the intersection of people and information. Having spanned content management, UX design/research, and information architecture role titles, the way I leverage my IA skillset has deepened and abstracted over time, and I can trace some of the skills all the way back to college. My practice is about people working with information, with the details more telling than the structure (i.e., bottom-up data understanding), and constructing for people as our in-search-of-x selves. My work tends to see not only the next step, but the n likely steps after that to get to a goal state, and likely pivot points where the goal state should be double-checked -- including ecology-level shifts. People are complex. Information is complex. Integrating both doesn’t shift the complexity by role; only the output shifts. While a simple dimension is always included in the goal, it's as an entry point. These are great for when there is not a lot of changes, as we currently do not have enough resources to create unique pages for every interaction. Next to this we have standard experience portals which are created with a template and populated with content as it is added. These are great for when there are no additional requirements for components beyond what is currently active. On the standard pages modules become visible once populated with data which means that we only need to upload the content once for it to appear in the galleries and experience portals. To see more about what I have been up to, you may visit my standard experience portal on which you will find all my media. - UX | Design in Focus #CID
U S ER EXPERIENCE DE S IGN UX | CI | DE S IGN IN FOCU S | CONTACT Companies can lose millions if they fail to optimize user experience. UX is the customer's experience navigating a company's site and it directly affects that company's bottom line. To create a user friendly website that allows customers to easily access a company's products and/or services, companies should consider usability as well as UX. There are four main phases in the UX process. Within these four phases we focus on three core metrics. U S ER RE S EARCH User research is very important for several reasons. First, it provides a way to gather data about what users want in your product. User research results can guide decisions about a new product's features and functionality. Understanding your users allows you to focus on their needs and what they expect from your products. A great user research program can also be used effectively to inform marketing efforts as well as design new products or features. Read More INTELIGENT DE S IGN Data-driven design makes products more intuitive and convenient for users. It's a methodology that blends market research and customer insights with quantitative analysis to shape interfaces, interactions, and experiences that gather feedback from real-world use. Inteligent design is at the heart of UX design, and you'll find that it yields better results. U S ABILITY As more and more companies begin to implement a formal user experience process, the competitive advantage of providing superior service continues to grow. Satisfying customers isn’t just good business, it’s good design. People are using websites and apps to order food, reserve tickets, talk to friends and pay bills online. Companies need to focus on usability for good reason: websites and apps that are difficult to use drive users away. These metrics can be perfected by developing the ten building blocks of a website. These ten building blocks centre around six features of UX: Findability, Accessibility, Desirability, Usability, Credibility and Usefulness. FINDABILITY To easily rank well in search engines, it's a good idea to take a critical look at the findability of your website. You may think that people who are searching for your product or service will automatically be able to find you online, but that is not always the case. Even if you have been online for a while and have had good rankings, search algorithms change frequently and can now impact your search results. ACCE SS ABILITY Making your website accessible to everyone is essential for making sure everyone can navigate and enjoy your website easily. However, creating an accessible website is not an easy task especially with the numerous Web Standards and technologies involved. DE S IRABILITY Desirability is the desire to use a product or service, based on its properties and benefits. To create a design that people desire there must be something in the design that makes it desirable. I call this a desire trigger - something in the design that creates the desire to use it. Knowing what triggers desire can inspire a designer to add features and functionality to the end-user product, which will enhance its desirability. U S ABILITY An easy-to-use website is one that has been carefully thought out and tested. This includes presenting information in a way that makes sense to the user, providing clear navigation between pages of a site without unnecessary steps or page refreshes, and including an appropriate layout, design and color scheme to support usability. Well designed sites are usable. CREDABILITY Have you ever visited a website and didn't feel comfortable giving them your information? Perhaps they looked like they were built by a high school student, or maybe had some conflicting information somewhere. If your visitors to your site aren't confident that you're credible and reliable, then you won't be making many sales. USEFULNE SS What information does your user need? Is it easy for users to complete the tasks that they set out to do on your site? Is there content that can be streamlined or done away with? What if you experienced a slow connection speed and tried to search for something online? StormCIS focuses on creating comfortable user experiences for any website or mobile application. Passionate about web development as well as using design, animations and branding to create an experience that gives your product a personality. Whether you need a completely new website or upgrades to an existing site, let's talk.

- #ImpactCollective | Cédric Fettouche
< Back Cédric Fettouche Design strategist & Founder of Humanitarian Designers In 2017, after graduating from my Master's degree in Strategic design, I moved to Lesvos, Greece, to do humanitarian work. First to observe as a volunteer, then as a Project officer, I quickly learnt about project management: directing teams, liaising with partners and donors, managing logistics and conflicts, improving the internal and external communication, evaluating our impact. Passionate about design, I continued to have a design-led strategic approach on my daily tasks to break humanitarian assumptions. It generally meant to take a step back to reflect on a longer-term impact; then, to implement bottom-up co-creative methods to better reach social and environmental objectives. This humanitarian journey from a designer's perspective led me to work two years on Lesvos (Greece), then in Central Mediterranean Sea, and Tunisia. Seeing all these design opportunities, I founded the NGO Humanitarian Designers (HD) with the aim to bridge the gap between designers and NGOs, and guide motivated designers in their own committed journey. Today, it's a 450+ Slack members' community and our main past projects include a conference with 17 speakers in Paris and two courses about humanitarian design to design students from the Offenbach University (Germany) and ENSCI Les Ateliers (France). While managing voluntarily HD, I continued my professional journey with the team of the New European Bauhaus (European Commission) working on an initiative related to the creative sector and EU policies. My role as a policy assistant is to guide the bottom-up community of 600+ non-profit organisations with participatory workshops and activities. All together, we worked on better defining what it means to have a project that is simultaneously inclusive, sustainable, and beautiful. https://www.humanitariandesigners.org

Up Up < Back Sara Dholakia Visual & UX Designer - IBM About Sara I'm currently a visual designer at IBM and work on user experience and visual design for digital experiences. Design has always been a passion of mine, but my academic background is in psychology. I worked in the field for a number of years conducting clinical and neuropsychological assessments with individuals with severe mental illness. It was rewarding work that taught me a lot, and I'm really grateful that I had the opportunity to do it. However, it helped me realize that I should pursue a career that would allow me to combine my love of psychology and passion for design. With the aid of books and free online resources, I've become a self-taught visual and web designer. In my five years of experience as a designer, I’ve worked directly with multi-disciplinary teams and cross-organizational stakeholders to craft delightful websites and mobile apps and am now very happy to be working with and learning from a team of really amazing strategists and designers. I'm incredibly passionate about inclusive design, and my presentation will provide general information about what inclusive design is, some best practices, and how designers and individuals in design-adjacent roles can apply it to their work. Up Up < Back Natasha Hornink Alonso UX Researcher + Sociologist About Natasha I am a sociologist with experience in research and with training in project management currently working to build my career as an applied sociologist in UX. My performance at the university involved studies about women's participation in the construction of society, its cultural influences, among others. Moreover, during the world pandemic, my country faced many challenges to seek help for those who needed it the most. I participated as a research assistant in understanding the process of building a single identification system in Brazil and its effects on the implementation of the Brazilian federal government's emergency aid program. One of my passions is meeting different people and cultures, that's why I took volunteer opportunities, such as my work on "Grupo de Estudos Brasileiros Maria Quitéria" a research and study group on Brazil's Social Economics and International Relations, acting as Public Relations Director, these experiences gave me the opportunity to meet and work with different people. And also to go to Tbilisi, Georgia and have the experience of being in another country working with people from all over the world. I value working in a multicultural enviornment that enhances creativity and fosters learning opportunities.
