Impact Collective Since the start of Design in Focus in May 2022, I (Candice Storm) have found some of the most inspiring and top quality professionals from around the globe who are making meaningful and impactful change in the world. I do not have enough resources to speak to and publish content with all of them at the same time, and therefore I've created the impact collective. On this portal I will be listing names and links to either our collaboration projects or their own projects if we have not yet had any conversations. All of these individuals are actively working on many of the most pressing issues of our day and are well worth following or connecting with. Resources are limited but I will slowly be populating this portal. Please feel free to add to the list to help it grow. • Sustainable Fashion & the Role of Design

#TheDreamTeamRoundtable SESSION 01 SUSTAINABLE FASHION & THE ROLE OF DESIGN DTR01 Intro DTR01 Trailer DTR 01 E1 Dream Team Roundtable 01 Sustainable Fashion & the Role of Design. Episode one - Scope DTR01 E2 Dream Team Roundtable 01 Sustainable Fashion & the Role of Design. Episode two - Problem The Problem Fashion and circularity 100 billion garments are produced every year, of which only 1% are recycled. The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of GHG emissions, making it the third largest industry emitter in the world. Fashion is the second largest user of water worldwide and is responsible for 20% of the wastewater in the world, and due to farming methods, 25% of the world’s pesticides are used. Due to the fossil fuels used in the making of synthetic textiles (polyester, Nylon etc., make up 60% of textiles used in the fashion industry), the fashion industry is responsible for 35% of the world’s microplastics. Mike Price The two streams of recycling are second-hand and recycled garments back to fibre. Seconds hand market is growing, and today is worth around $71 billion, and by 2032 will be worth around $282 billion. If this trend continues, the second-hand fast fashion market could grow to double the size of the fast fashion market of today. Second-hand fashion share in the market today is between 12% -15%. https://www.futuremarketinsights.com/reports/secondhand-apparel-market Mike Price The recycling to fibre segment is still in the early stages of growth and has many challenges, as garments are not designed to be recycled. New technologies are coming to the fore that could help with the recycling of Synthetic textiles back to yarn in a sustainable fashion. Still, the recycling of blended textiles is challenging. A big challenge in recycling is that the recyclers have no data on the composition of the garments that they need to recycle. This leads to a labour-intensive and costly process. The European Green Deal and the introduction of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) in 2024 onwards. This will force garment manufacturers to provide data such as country of origin ad the materials used within the garments. Together with RFID/NFC/QRcode technologies will speed up and improve garment recycling. In essence, moving away from the linear fashion industry today to utilising a recycle, reuse, revamp, refuse, upcycle etc, is what is needed for the fashion industry to become circular. In this process, the minimization of waste and the reduction in the use of new raw materials and energy are key to its success. Mike Price What can CID professionals do to improve and build towards creating a circular economy? CID makes up a large percentage of the professionals contributing to the economy. Following are some insights from Deloitte. The creative economy represents around 7% of total employment. The creative economy is likely to be a key driver of economic growth over the long term. The creative economy employs nearly 20 million people across the nine economies studied. The creative economy is the part of the economy that tells our stories and the creative works we leave behind as a society are likely to define how future generations understand us. Most people would welcome a world in which a larger share of the workforce is engaged with creative work. To learn more about how the creative professional contributes to the economy read this article published by Deloitte : Deloitte UK Future Creative Economy Report CID professionals will play multifaceted roles ranging from conscious creatives to clever system developers to process whizzes, all contributing to the complex inter connected disciplines adding to the notion of circular. From the actual fashion designer and how they design from the ground up, to the product & service designer and what considerations goes into developing products that stands the test of time, to the music producer and how pop cult affects common perception, to the innovators building the actual tools and machines that will enable a circular economy. When presented with the figure above, CID is not immediately visible, yet plays crucial roles in all of the key areas presented. Not only is CID found in each key area, the nature of what CID is - which is to say, all that we experience in our environments not created solely by nature, is the product of CID, means that we can make the future we want to a large degree and are, have been, and will always be creating the tools and skills to do so. The three areas conceptually align with CID. Value creation and Creativity, Value capturing and Innovation, and Value delivery and Design are easy paralels to spot, but on each point CID can enable the goals too. Creativity can give us the vision and solutions for Value creation, Innovation can deliver tools that enable Value creation and Design steers the way to produce better and add to Value creation. This is true for each of the other 5 points too. Nothing in nature lasts forever and eventually everything runs out. If humans can create the idealistic circular economy, we would accomplish more than the Gods. This is a bold claim, we know. But think about it. Everything deteriorates, from the stars, to the living, even at atomic level. The dream in this Dream Team Roundtable is big. It's a dream team for sure, but is circular design best left for dreamers? Join us in December and find out. • Randstad UX x Cognizant : Design for Accessibility with Marli Ritter & William Terra

Design for Accessibility 23 March 2023 To create digital products that’s inclusive and accessible is not a subcategory of design. For years, accessibility within digital product development has been perceived as expensive and not really worth the effort based on the market segment it serves. This is and has always been a dire misconception. Every person in the team plays an integral part and small changes can result in big wins. Not only should designs be inclusive but also ethically sound. With the EU ban on digital dark patterns that’s coming into practice with more restrictive rules, it’s important to keep an eye on how designers can follow these new practices for Ethics on Digital Products. Marli Ritter UXD | Inclusive Design & Accessibility FedEX Amsterdam Marli Ritter is a UX Designer and Web Accessibility evangelist who started off as a basic web designer in the ‘90s. After 2 decades in the design industry, she’s found her spark in Inclusive Design & Accessibility. Initially this awareness week was planned for the Netherlands only, but we are already collaborating with connections in the US, UK, Brazil and India, and have now started reaching out to an international network of UX pros from every corner of the world. The theme spans the entire summer, but we are actively working on condensing as much as possible into one week, the week of the 21st of August for maximum impact. Well, that was the plan. But due to the amazing response from professionals, one week is not enough to contain all the events, and so now we have the Design for Tomorrow Awareness Weeks! You may park next to the building or at the church for free. Using the link above, Maps will suggest this route Active session: I only have two cameras, that's why I asked you all to bring your laptops so that we can record everyone's faces to. That way we can focus on each person for closeups and also do team shots. To start I will open the session with a welcome and introduction. I will ask each of you to give a brief introduction of yourselves no longer than 2 minutes. When you're all done I will announce the challenge, after which you have 15 minutes to discuss it amongst yourselves. During this time you can share your knowledge and ideate. From 16 minutes on you will start "working" on the challenge, discussing ideas and demonstrating how you would go about such a challenge in real life. After the 16 minute mark you will have one 24 minute session and thereafter, if need be, 40 minutes sessions followed by a break between each. This way we can turn the podcast into episodes of 45 minutes each should the session require more time for us to beat the challenge. We are allowed to use the room and building until 19:00. After party: When we are done recording we can go for drinks and food. At the moment I am still working out the details of this and will publish it when we have the details. Review It will take me some time to edit the final video. Once it's complete I will share it with you along with the agreement form that you should have read by now on the participant formalities page. I will let you listen to it for a few days and then if you approve, you may sign the agreement. Once everyone approves and has signed the agreement, we will publish the podcast. I will publish it on Design in Focus and on all other media platforms we publish on, including youtube and Soundcloud. I will also share it on social and tag you. During the review stage, please ensure that you listen carefully and if you would like to change something, please let me know ASAP. What's with all the Numbers? We thought it may be easier to convey and filter across multiple concepts. To create content you can pick three or more keywords. E.g. Value of creativity in society or Impact of innovative design in business and society. Of course creativity can be replaced with a specific creative field such as music, branding, etc. These 7 keywords are meant as a compass to guide the body of our works. CID If you are a Creative | Innovator | Designer (CID Professional), then you match the criteria for participating on DiF (Design in Focus). Learn more about how w approach CID. CID? White Knight Program Our White Knight Program Receives donations from 3001 Euros and have a coupled CSR program. Would you like make a donation or sponsor us? Below are a couple of suggestions based on our backlog that may be relevant for you. But you are welcome to choose how you assist by creating your own amount and frequency. Please contact us directly for any questions. SPONSOR CONTACT 41.00 PM Restream Pro Two live streams, two echos, with a pro account we don't have to try to fix so much because it has better options and services, which will ensure no more echos in live! Hi Prio 390.00 PY Zoom Zoom is a great tool for webinars and podcasts and is also easy to use with a low learning curve. If we have a Zoom account, our recordings will get at least 60% better High Prio 67.50 PM Toon Boom Harmony With this software we can create better infographics and animations and make our videos more engaging. Medium Prio 19.99 PM Adobe Premiere Pro Free tools do not render the best video as you can probably tell. With Adobe Premiere Pro we can improve the quality of or videos by a lot. High Prio Up to you Hubspot Hubspot can help us grow in many ways while at the same time enabling us to manage our digital channels more effectively. Up to you Tools A poor craftsman blames his tools, but without tools, designing, developing, producing, publishing and marketing our platform is very challenging. Sponsor us for tools in general or find specific and urgently needed tools in this list. High Prio Up to you Equipment But, it is super costly with single items ranging from 40 to over a thousand Euros per month. Up to you Business Development Altough Design in Focus is a foundation, it still needs business inteligence to ensure that it can remain online and active for years to come. Weather it's writing pitch decks, stakeholder relations & management, business strategy or generating leads, all forms of Business Development are welcome. High Prio Up to you Marketing We have not had a spare cent to spend on any marketing. We have users from around the globe that visit us, and their almost unanimous feedback is that it is a great concept and they could really use the product. But for it's true potential to be mined, we will need even more traffic and users. One big marketing campaign or small daily campaigns could take this idea and scale it to where it should be. High Prio Up to you Developer(s) While Candice Storm does have a long history in web design, her coding skills are just basic. Some of the features that we wish to include on our platform requires someone who'se skills are far more superior. Sponsor us to hire someone, or sponsor someone from your organisation to work on DiF for a set amount of time a month or wekk, or just once off to help with the bulk. High Prio Up to you Presenter(s) & Host(s) Design in Focus has lot's of potential and the concept can really add value & impact, but Candice Storm has never indended and has had no preperation for hosting shows! If you think it project is promising now, can you imagine what it could be with the right people? Sponsor us to hire help or sponsor your own to put their time ad effort in. Medium Prio Up to you Audio Engineer Design in Focus was conceptualised by Candice Storm, who is an Identity Experience Designer focussed on Online Activations, after a friend asked to make a podcast to create some visibility of his personal brand. Although Candice gained familiarity with audio during her Multimedia Studies, it's not her forte or speciality. We are looking for ways to enlist the assistance of audio engineers and designers to improve the audio content. If you would like to make a massive difference, sponsoring audio assistance is the way to go. For companies working with Audio media, it will be a good opportunity to consider allowing (sponsoring) one or more of their own audio professionals an hour or two a week to work on Design in Focus. This would be a good opportunity to upskill as well as give back to the community. Medium Prio SPONSORS VIEW SPONSORS
